Poor Republican

Roland Burris has a wonderful grave site all set up for himself.  He has actually built his own monument, which lists his accomplishments.

But it doesn’t look like Mr. Burris will get to add his Senate accomplishments to the list.  He’s been denied admission to the Senate.  Even though he was legally appointed, apparently “Whitey” doesn’t want to let him in.

At least, that’s what we’d hear if a Republican had done this.

First the black “civil rights” groups demanded that the seat be “kept black”.  Now the “White Power Structure” in the Senate has denied the appointed person the chance to take his seat.  They’re not even telling him to sit at the back of the bus; they’re telling him he can’t even get on the bus.  It appears that the Democrats have barred the Senate door.

Liberals will immediately make excuses for this.  The paperwork isn’t in order.  He was appointed by Blagojevich, so his seat is tainted.  There will be rationalizations galore.  And every one of them might be true.

The point is that it shouldn’t matter.  It sure wouldn’t matter if it were Republicans.  Every time anything happens to blacks, if a Republican even talks about it he’s a racist.  If he didn’t stop it he’s double racist.  If he actually had something to do with it, he’s triple racist.

New Orleans’ destruction and refugee mess from Katrina were because Bush hates black people.  The mayor, who failed miserably in his own city, got no blame.  He was both Democrat and black.  The governor of Louisiana, who failed to respond in time, got no blame.  She was a Democrat.  All the blame skipped all Democrats in the chain and went straight to nearest Republican.

If Republicans want to cut taxes, it’s because they’re racist.

Republicans wanted the Iraq war because they’re racist.

But if you’re black or a Democrat, nothing you do or say is ever racist.  Even when you decide who a Senate seat “belongs” to.  Even if you, on the other hand, refuse to seat a legally appointed black Senator.

Imagine if Republicans ran the Senate and had denied an incoming black Senator his seat.  Set aside the fact that liberal voters typically don’t even know that Democrats run both houses of Congress for a moment, and pretend that they do know that. Ironically, this means that the average liberal voter is probably blaming Republicans for Burris being denied his seat!

Republicans would be excoriated in front page stories and editorials in every major newspaper.  Jesse Jackson would be on television telling everyone how racism is still a giant problem in this country, and Burris is the proof.  There would be calls for Reid’s Republican equivalent to resign, and stupidly, Republicans in the Senate would join them in an attempt to avoid the racism label.  Every talk show would be talking about how we were embarrassing ourselves in front of the eyes of the world.

But you won’t see that in this case, because the perpetrators are Democrats.

Can you say “double standard?”  I knew you could.
