The blog rules. Liberals take note, for a change. You like “change,” don’t you?

Published by csc5502 at 3:04 pm under Getting along, Relationships Edit This

I wish I didn’t have to do this, but some of our liberal “friends” either can’t be bothered to read the rules or can’t be bothered to follow them.  It’s sad that liberals aren’t raised properly or just refuse to learn, so I take it upon myself to educate them on the basics of civil discourse.

The Rules

the_ten_commandments_on_stone.jpg

Ok, those aren’t actually MY rules.

These rules are mine, and they are fairly simple, although I understand these may be confusing for liberals.

1.  Make a point that is related to the post.

Do I really have to explain this?

2.  Make a point intelligently.

Or this?

3.  Name calling and accusations without any evidence do not constitute making a point intelligently.

4.  I will edit comments to add my reply; I will NOT edit comments because I don’t like what you say.

That means you can be liberal here as long as you otherwise follow the rules.  You know, like liberals always say about illegal aliens who “otherwise follow the rules?”

5.  Comments that disagree with me WILL be published, however, if you violate the rules I will probably tell you so and summarily delete all following comments if they also violate the rules.

I do warn you; if you don’t listen don’t send another post crying about it.

6.   Profanity will not be published, ever.  I cuss more than I should, but I will not do it here.  You won’t either.

Ever.  I don’t care if you don’t like it or you think that makes me a (insert childish insult here).

7.   Spelling and grammar count!  I can’t stand illiterate rants.  If your post is really bad, I may correct your spelling and grammar just for fun.  If I make a mistake, and I WILL, feel free to point it out.  I will publish your correction and fix my mistake.

I know, you hate having to actually use proper English just like you hate any other standard you can’t/won’t comply with, but if you send me gibberish, it’s over for you.

8.  Party line jokes are ok if they’re not dirty or hurtful….and if I find them funny.  Good luck on that one!  If you make a good crack at Republicans, I WILL publish it.

Believe me, I crack on Bush all the time.

9.  The rules apply to everyone..including me.  I want an intellectually, logically and factually based blog.  I’ll try not to step out of that.  If I do, I’m sure someone will point to my own rules and call me out.  Please do.  I’ll fix it.

I get passionate and go off the deep end, verbally speaking, just as much as the next guy.

10. Threats, real or implied, will not be tolerated.  Instant ban.

If you do this, you are not only incapable of intelligent discourse, you are also not very smart.  Making threats is illegal, but more than that…do you know who’s on the other end of the connection?  I don’t, and neither do you.  Threatening someone whose capabilities and mental state you do not know is just plain dumb.

I may add more if I feel the need, but for now….let’s keep it a clean fight as much as we can.

I know this is difficult if you’re a liberal, but you have to stay within the lines if you want to post here.  You see, I am a CONSERVATIVE.  That means I have standards, and unlike yours, they are not “living documents.”

Wow, that’s awfully authoritarian. It’s just a blog.

–csc5502 says: See, that’s just what I mean by standards. It’s not “just a blog,” it’s MY blog. I’m responsible for it. Therefore, I say what goes. And at least I’m up front and honest, unlike the many, many liberal bloggers who yell about censorship and then delete comments that don’t agree with them.

By the way, you’ll notice that I don’t agree with YOU, yet your comment is being posted because you’re not being a jerk or a ‘tard about it. That’s how easy it is.

I think your “blog commandments” are perfectly rational rules for most adult conversations. It is, however, mildly insulting to everyone to lump people into your r[i]diculous ideas that all liberals are mentally and/or grammatically challenged, and can’t argue a point without sounding like a “tard”. (If you want to be technical about name-calling.) A double standard doesn’t exactly make your case seem worthwhile.

–csc5502 says: It’s not mildy insulting; it’s a conclusion based on many, many encounters with liberals in the blogosphere. In any case, I did not say “all liberals are mentally and/or grammatically challenged, and can’t argue a point without sounding like a ‘tard’” anywhere. If that’s how you choose to take it, I can’t help that. As far as a double standard goes, there isn’t one. Liberals argue from emotions and disregard facts and standards. I have the comments from liberals, blogs from liberals, and the media as conclusive evidence. Rule #3 does not apply to the point you are trying and failing to make.

the only difference between conservatives and liberals are the donors that back them. you all eventually bow to the same corporate masters to carry out your agenda of propagation, consumerism, and greed.

placing the ten commandments into this post is in and of itself a form of blasphemy, something that an apparent social conservative like yourself should know better than to attempt, but i digress.

i’ve skimmed some of your past work, and i take serious issue with rule number nine. very little of what you’ve commented/opined/prattled on about is based in logic, fact, or intellect. it’s simply repeating the talking points of Drudge, Malkin, Hannity, and Limbaugh. what i wouldn’t give to have the job of “fact-checker” for that crew. it would be even easier than being Blago’s “ethics adviser”.

–csc5502 says: Drudge does nothing but link to other stories, usually on such “right-wing” giants as ABC, Washington Post, New York Times, etc. without editorial. How exactly does Drudge publish talking points by doing that? And where in the history of Christianity has it ever been said that posting a representation of the Ten Commandments is blasphemy? Even the generic definition of the word does not support you. Once again, accusations without basis in fact.

Finally, awful use of language in general, starting with lack of proper capitalization, etc. which I left in so people could see it.

And yet people disagree with what I say about the way liberals argue. Go figure.

I like Liam’s comments best. I think Liam sums it up best when he says you are simply repeating talking points of those conservative clowns you honor in your blog.
Most of what you have written in this post is also more nonsense. Whether you know it or not, you are not responsible for what appears in your blog. You are only responsible for what you write. If your blog crosses the line, I am sure the blog police will find you and throw you in blog-jail.
Lighten up a bit. You conservatives need to take it easy. We liberals are just getting started on our eight year journey. After all, we didn’t bother you conservatives when you started your eight year journey. Now it’s our turn.

–csc5502 says: A liberal that likes what a liberal said, and states it by name-calling? I’m shocked. Oh, and look, you even advocate lack of standards and etiquette through faulty logic. Since I have moderation over comments, whatever I choose to allow onto my blog IS my responsibility. Oh, and yes, you very much did bother us. That’s as bald-faced a lie as you could utter.

I don’t get what part you don’t agree with. Do you disagree that you’re being a tad authoritarian with all these rules, or that your blog is anything more than just another blog?

    –csc5502 says: Neither.

  6. Virginia Shanahanon 07 Jan 2009 at 6:36 pm edit this

I am lovin’ the rules. Isn’t it sad it’s even necessary to write them? I actually had to ban an individual from my blog for the unnecessary vulgarity.

    Good for you!

–csc5502 says: You’re the first positive comment I’ve gotten! I’d say they’d be out to burn you at the stake, but think of all that carbon…….

Here. Let me respond with proper capitalization. Had you taken (or taken and passed) an English course, you would know- unequivocally- that there was nothing wrong with my use of grammar in my previous comments. Nor will there be in anything I add.

I am not-repeat, NOT- a liberal. Nor am I a conservative. Your labels are purely (albeit poor and antiquated) euphemisms regarding American politics. As an Irishman, these labels do not apply to me.

That seems to be a large problem with American politics altogether- erroneously assuming that anyone and everyone with the misfortune of clicking on your posts hails from the same sod you claim as home. Tsk tsk, mate, such is not always the case.

The previous commenter is accurate when he/she claims that American democrats/liberals didn’t bother you conservatives over the last eight years. You were allowed and approved to spy on your own countrymen, torture countless numbers of fellow humans, destroy nations, rape and plunder your environment, monetarily screw your citizenry, engage in wars based on lies, and hide behind a flag and a God you clearly understand little about.

By your own admission, Drudge links and re-prints the stories from “right wing” giants. That, sir, is repeating talking points. If you haven’t figured out that all American news is biased by now, you’re lost.

–csc5502 says: Actually, I was top of my class in both grammar and composition in several English courses. That’s why I know that lack of proper capitalization actually IS bad grammar. It falls under “sentence structure.” In any case, I said “language,” not grammar.

Liberal and Conservative are not “euphemisms,” antiquated or otherwise. Look up the word, genius.

They’re also not limited to American politics. Simply searching the terms on Google will show you that.

I never assume where anyone is from. Incidentally, “Liam” is not a very common name around here, so it IS a bit of a clue. But since you are from that little postage stamp on the other side of the pond, it tends to explain why you don’t know how much crap conservatives have had to put up with here. That didn’t even start with Bush, but in 1994.

The Drudge reference was sarcasm, not an admission, Mr. Professor. Anyone who follows news knows that the sources I referenced are blatantly biased to the Left, not Right.

Well, I must admit…..when you don’t know something, you really do it right.

Love your post, and your rules. Keep up the great work. I know in California, being a Conservative, you are in the minority, as liberals seem to own the state. Keep up the faith, and God Bless you.

    -Robert-

–csc5502 says: Thank you sir, and God Bless you as well.

Hello PR! This is my second attempt to leave a comment; hope it works this time. Thanks for stopping by my humble home on the ‘net and for adding me to your blog roll. I’ve returned the favor. And the rules are cool! Happy blogging!

–csc5502 says: Welcome! Your blog makes my blog hang its head in shame.

Wow. I’m not sure what else there is to say at this point. For all of you who are complaining about having to follow the rules, did you not have any growing up? Are there not rules you have to follow every time you go to work or school, get in your car or on a bus, or walk down the street? Is the government being authorit[ar]ian by telling you to stop at a red light? The rules on this blog are some of the most lenient rules you will ever see in your life. Many of you are sounding like children, or worse, know-it-all teenagers. For those who are fine with having rules, thank you for taking the time over the years to grow up.

I think the title of your blog should be: Poor Republican AMERICAN. It’s good that you set down rules; anarchy solves nothing other than destruction of freedom. Love the blog.
