Paul Harvey, gone at age 90. Rest in peace.

Published by csc5502 under Current Events Edit This

Paul Harvey

I’m taking a break from politics today to say thank you and goodbye to Paul Harvey.  I’ve listened to him for so long that I can’t remember when I didn’t.  That’s probably because he was on the air before I was breathing it.

His The Rest of the Story segments kept me glued to the radio every time they came on.  He had a singular voice, a unique cadence to his speech, and a common-sense “every man” way of speaking.  I hated it when I missed his segments, and when I heard someone else reading them it never felt right.

I even remember hearing them overseas on Armed Forces Radio Network.

Like Chick Hearn and Harry Caray, there is no one to fill his shoes because nobody can.

We’ll never again “know the rest of the story.”

Thanks for being a part of my life and so many others, Mr. Harvey.  May God bless and keep you.

You earned it, sir.

Obama doesn’t know who invented the automobile; Biden doesn’t know the “website number.”

More from the “genius” Comrade Obama and his boy wonder, Joe “Stand up for Chuck” Biden.

First, here’s Biden trying to remember the “website number.”

Imagine if a Republican had said he doesn’t know the “website number.”

Then there was Comrade Obama giving his speech to Congress.  Among other things, he said that he’s against big government, and then went on to describe nothing but big government takeovers of every aspect of our lives.

It’s a long, boring, yet frightening speech in which Comrade Obama contradicts himself repeatedly.  He uses the rhetoric of Ronald Reagan, while pushing the policies of Mao and Stalin.  He even mimics Adolf Hitler, substituting “banker” for “Jew.”  But an example of how little Mr. Harvard Law Review actually knows stood out:

And I believe the nation that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it.

A minor issue, Comrade President:  While America certainly invented the assembly line for automobiles (and for everything, really), we did not invent the automobile itself, or even the internal combustion engine.  Karl Benz developed the first practical internal combustion engined automobile (and the oldest car company, Daimler-Benz, if you go back to its roots) and  Nikolaus August Otto developed the first four-stroke practical internal combustion engine that powered it.

Both of these men were from Germany, Comrade President.  Of course, we probably shouldn’t expect much automobile knowledge from you.  Everyone knows you hate them and want us to ride buses and bikes, and your own auto industry team drives mostly foreign cars, while you pander to American auto worker unions.

These are the geniuses you elected, liberals.  If this garbage had come out of Bush’s mouth we’d never hear the end of it.

The Comrade Obama Five Year Plan address was full of various contradictions and outright “factual mistakes” (as liberals call “lies” when they say them).  AP has a surprisingly accurate article here.

Obama liberals call Republicans greedy, but who really wants what?

You’ve heard it a million times.  Republicans are greedy.  Republicans don’t care about the poor.

Let’s address that in light of the recently passed Communist promotion bill.

Liberals got what they wanted, and almost no Republicans voted for it, so Democrats own this nonsense.

The bill encourages longer stays on unemployment.  The bill encourages longer stays on welfare, and removes the work requirement.  Yet, for the truly disabled on SSI, it issues only a one-time payment of $250.

It is liberals who want to subsidize handouts for people who can work, but give almost nothing for those who physically or mentally can’t.  So who really cares about the poor?

It is the conservative who wants people to work and make their own way, who wants to remove government barriers to job creation.  It is the liberal who encourages people to stay on the dole for as long as possible. So who really wants people to have the American dream?

It is the liberal who demands that the bank that made a sub-prime mortgage take responsibility, yet also demands that the homeowner who applied for and signed for that loan not have to take responsibility.  It is the conservative that says nobody, the bank or the homeowner, should be bailed out for poor decision making.  So who really cares about personal responsibility?  Who really wants people to succeed on their own merits, which anyone knows is more fulfilling than having taxpayers subsidize you?

It is the liberal who wants handouts.  It is the liberal who thinks other people should pay for their bills.  It is the liberal that never wants the poor to come off welfare and become successful, i.e. “winners of life’s lottery,” as Dick Gephardt put it.

It is the conservative who says “make your own way.”  It is also the conservative who does not want to confiscate your hard earnings when you realize the American dream by becoming wealthy.

Yes, a conservative wants to keep his money, but he also wants everyone to keep their money.  A liberal wants to keep his money, but he also wants other people’s money.

A conservative wants everyone to have a chance at being rich, while realizing that not everyone will make it.  A liberal realizes that not everyone will make it, so they don’t think anyone should.  According to a liberal, it’s not fair that some people will stop being poor.

It is the liberal who doesn’t care about the poor.  It is the liberal who is greedy.
