Comrade Obama and his EcoNazi administration want to install “smart” meters in your homes, to “help” you save on your electric bill.

How will a “’smart” meter help you save electricity?

Well according to Comrade Obama,

“We could set up systems so that everybody in each house have their own smart meters that, uhh, will tell you when to turn off the lights, when the peak hours are, can help you sell back energy, uh, that you’ve generated in your home through a solar panel or through, uh, eh, other mechanisms. All this can be done, but it also creates jobs right now. Our biggest problem, we don’t have enough electricians to lay all these lines out there.”

Is that so?  Show of hands.  How many people out there don’t know when to turn off lights?  For instance, when you leave the room?  Perhaps when you go to sleep?

How many of you have never heard one of the endless stream of announcements by the government or utility companies that tell you to avoid using major appliances during peak hours, usually between 2 and 7 p.m.?

How many of you have “uh, eh, other mechanisms” to generate electricity?  If you live in an apartment or a rented home that you cannot modify, exactly how does this help you?  The obvious answer is that it does not.

And how does it create jobs “right now?”  You can only assume that if you assume that there will be many, many more meters installed.  And how do you assume that unless you’re assuming that the meters will be mandatory?  Oh, they would never do that, right?  Of course not.  After all, it’s never been done before…except in England, Bermuda, Germany, and eventually Europe in general.

Ask yourself this question:  do I really think that Barack Obama, who is taking over every aspect of life and business in the country, really wants me to have a smart meter just to save me money?

If you answered yes, you’re naive at best and quite stupid at worst.

Here are the advertised capabilities of a smart meter, along with a translation of why Obama wants you to have one:

Meter measurement of electricity by the hour or less.  That means they can measure your use at any given time and monitor and log it.  The meter proponents say this is to help you control your usage by feedback.  It’s actually to control your usage by making sure you meet whatever guidelines Obama has put in place, such as this proposal in England.

Ability to “throttle” electricity by setting a maximum amount usable at any given time or per hour, per day, etc.  Why build this ability into the meters unless you plan on using it?  This means Obama’s EcoNazis will tell you how much electricity to use and when.  First it will be “voluntary” and based on price.  If that doesn’t work, because you are willing or able to pay what it takes to use what you want, they will simply ration your power to make you conform to the limits Obama sets.  They will use the meter to set a level of power that they decide you are allowed to have and you will get no more.  Period.  You can cook, but not watch TV at the same time.  You can watch tv, but not have your computer on.  Get the picture so far?

Ability to detect unauthorized use of electricity.  See above.

Bi-directional communication.  Self explanatory.  They can’t decide how much you can use unless they have a good database of your usage, right?

Ability to interface with water and gas meters.  One stop shopping for the EcoNazis.  You use too much gas?  Bad for global warming.  Sorry, but we’ll have to set limits on that too.  Take faster showers, buddy.

They’ll even be able to calculate your “carbon footprint” by integrating the data from all your usages, and then set limits on everything based on that.  Oh, that sounds paranoid, doesn’t it?

Ask these people:

“Britain’s monitoring of public citizens has reached an all new height, as local authorities turn to spy planes to search out homeowners who are using too much energy.

Thermal imaging cameras are used to create color-coded maps by which council officers can identify offenders. The officers then conduct follow up visits to the homes to educate occupants about environmental damage and ways to reduce their energy consumption.

The Broadland District Council in Norfolk has already spent $44,000 (£30,000) hiring a plane with an onboard thermal imaging camera, according to a report in Britain’s Daily Mail Online.  Broadland, which includes the towns of Aylsham, Reepham and Acle, hired the plane for five days in January from a Leicestershire-based firm.

According to the conservative-led Council, the approach has been so successful that other local authorities are now planning to follow suit.“

The bottom line is that the smart meter is designed to control you, voluntarily at first, and by force eventually.  Connect your smart meter to the smart grid, and you can control the electrical use of every customer from a central location.  Perhaps from Al Gore’s mansion?

It’s the old EcoNazi line of “conserving” our way out of a shortage.  This line from the Wiki entry on smart meters says it best:

“Regulatory and market design agencies hope these “price signals” will delay the construction of additional generation or at least the purchase of energy from higher priced sources, thereby controlling the steady and rapid increase of electricity prices.”

Normally I don’t trust Wikipedia much, but that is a very accurate description of the purpose of smart grids and metering.

In the name of global warming, climate change, saving the planet, or whatever they’re calling it this week, they want to slow down economic activity in this country.  They want us to use less power when they know the demand will only rise.  Their solution?  Not to build us more power generation, but to FORCE us to use less power so they don’t have to build more “polluting” power plants.

Every time the demand for power goes up, they’ll just turn your meter down, whether you like it or not.

Comrade Obama and his Democrat cronies will save you lots of money on your electric bill.

After all, you don’t have to pay for power you’re not allowed to use.
